Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Hair grows in a cycle of three stages: anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting). Our technology targets the hair follicle in the growth phase, which is when the hair responds best to the treatment. About 30% of hair is in this phase at any given time, which why you need multiple treatments to see results.

Our device works by delivering energy to the hair follicle, where it’s absorbed by the hair pigment. This destroys the follicle so that the hair cannot grow anymore.

You will be provided with protective eyewear and a cool gel will be applied to the area being treated to allow for the laser hand piece to glide over the skin. Your Laser Technician will move over small sections at a time in a painting like motion until desired area has been treated in its entirety.

What to expect?

Six to eight treatments are needed for successful hair removal. For the treatments to be successful, treatments need to be completed during the anagen (growth) stage. Your Laser Technician will recommend the best treatment schedule according to your skin tone, hair type, and treatment progress. Appointments are scheduled between four and 8 weeks apart depending on treatment progress.

Will the hair grow back?

People can grow new hairs throughout their life and fluctuation of hormones caused by pregnancy, menopause, the start or stop of birth control pills, or other illnesses that cause hormonal imbalances also triggers new growth. Most require maintenance treatments periodically after their initial series of treatments to control new growth and maintain their results.

Am I eligible for treatment?

The overall success of laser hair removal is dependent on a combination of your hair texture, hair color, and skin color. Laser light is attracted to the pigment (melanin) in your hair, making dark hair, light skin, and coarse hair the easiest to treat. It is more difficult to treat “peach fuzz”, very light blonde, red, grey or white hair, as there is typically not a sufficient amount of pigment in these hair colors.

Individuals that are pregnant or breast feeding, have pacemakers, metal plates or screws in treatment area, taking photosensitizing medications such as Tetracycline or Accutane or has not been more than six months since stopping medications, or those with open sores or skin conditions in the treatment area should not receive laser hair removal until seen and cleared by their medical provider.

We cannot treat over a tattoo. Tattoos will need be covered during treatment by either clothing or a towel provided to you by your Laser Technician. Please be sure your Laser Technician is aware if you have permanent makeup.

Pre-treatment care

To prepare for your laser hair removal treatment, be sure to shave at least 24 hours before your laser hair removal appointment. No direct suntan, tanning beds or spray tan for two weeks before laser hair removal appointment. No waxing, bleaching or use of depilatory creams (Nair) while undergoing treatment. Make sure all lotions, creams, and deodorants are removed before treatment. Avoid the use of photosensitizing medications such as Retin A, Alpha Hydroxyl or Glycolic Acid, one week prior to treatment. For females, if you are having your bikini area treated, please make sure you are not on your menstrual cycle as you can become more sensitive to the treatment. If you have a history of Herpes Simplex Virus infection, type 1 or 2, the risk of complication may be reduced if prescribed antiviral medications is taken prior to and after each treatment.

Post-treatment care

Avoid hot showers, baths, hot tubs, and exercise for 24-48 hours after each treatment. No direct suntan and tanning beds. Always apply sunscreen to treated area during treatment phase. Avoid applying cosmetics to treated area until redness (if any) has subsided. In the event of any superficial burn, do not pick, scrap or exfoliate and call the spa immediately.
